Ioannina, known as Giannena as well, is a city of Epirus, seat of the Municipality of Ioannina and the capital of the Regional Unit of Ioannina. It is also seat and the biggest city of the Region of Epirus and of the Decentralized Administration of Epirus – Western Macedonia.


Ioannina city is located in the northwest Greece, in the centre of the homonymous basin. It is one of the largest cities of Greece with rich cultural traditions and modern developmental enterprises.


The city is surrounded by Pamvotida Lake, which is one of the most significant natural sights of the area. The lake is known for its beauty, its calm waters and its small island that hosts the Museum Ali Pasa.
